1. Who we are
Camino de Costa Rica Lodging ("we", "us", "our") operates caminodecostaricalodging.com, a free tool to help hikers plan accommodations along the Camino de Costa Rica trail. We are based in Costa Rica.
2. What information we collect
When you create an account, we collect:
- Full name
- Email address
- WhatsApp number
- Nationality
- Number of hikers in your group
- Emergency contact name and phone number
- Your hiking itinerary data (accommodations, dates, meals, notes)
3. How we use your information
We use your information solely to:
- Enable you to send reservation requests to accommodation hosts along the trail
- Save and display your hiking itinerary
- Send you account-related emails such as login codes
If you opt in, your hiking itinerary may be shared with the Mar a Mar association for trail planning and coordination purposes. This is entirely optional and can be toggled on or off in your hiker profile at any time.
We may also use your data in aggregate and anonymous form to calculate trail statistics such as total hiker nights booked and popular accommodations along the route. No personally identifiable information is included in these statistics.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
4. Lawful basis for processing
We process your personal data on the basis of your consent. You provide this consent when you create an account. You may withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account.
5. Third party services
We use the following third party services to operate the site:
- Supabase — stores your account and itinerary data securely
- Vercel — hosts the website
- Resend — delivers account emails such as login codes
- Fathom Analytics — collects anonymous, privacy-friendly website analytics. No personal data is collected and no cookies are used for tracking.
- Mar a Mar — if you opt in via your hiker profile, your itinerary data may be shared with the Mar a Mar association.
6. Data security
Your data is stored securely via Supabase with row-level security policies ensuring users can only access their own data. We take reasonable measures to protect your information, though no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.
7. Data retention
We retain your account and itinerary data for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by emailing matt@pacuareoutdoorcenter.com.
8. Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your account and data
- Request a copy of your data in a portable format
- Withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account

9. Cookies
We do not use cookies for tracking or advertising. Supabase uses a cookie solely to maintain your login session.
10. Children's privacy
Our site is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
