About the town of Parismina, Costa Rica

Barra del Parismina is a small Caribbean village of about 500 people, reachable only by boat or small plane where the Reventazón River reaches the ocean. Local legend ties the village's name to a birth story: as it goes, a pregnant woman traveling the coast went into labor, and her companion urged her on with "Aquí pares, Mina" — "here you give birth, Mina" — which over time became "Parismina."
