Section 3 and 4

Booking your guide and what to expect

Stage 3 is widely considered the most demanding section of the El Camino de Costa Rica. Despite the moderate distance, hikers consistently report a full, exhausting day on the trail, often taking 8 hours or more.

At the same time, this stage is one of the most rewarding. Hikers pass through pristine primary rainforest with abundant wildlife and birdlife, offering a true immersion in one of the most untouched regions of the country.

Most hikers choose to continue directly into Stage 4 on the same day, as suggested by Mar a Mar Association.

Logistics must be arranged ahead of time. In many cases, your accommodation just before entering the Indigenous territory, such as Nairi Awari or Barbilla Rainforest Lodge, can help organize your Cabécar guide. However, if you prefer to book directly, you can contact local coordinators such as Alexander Martinez (+506-8440-3095) via WhatsApp.

At this time, in our app you can't add the guide to your itinerary, so please make a note of the booking in your Stage 2 accommodation.
